StealthRidge R Leather Motorcycle Racing Jacket

The case against a colourway

Race-replica colours date. A jacket tied to a particular season's livery looks current for two years and dated for the next ten, and it locks you into one bike's paint scheme. All-black has no such problem: it does not clash with anything, it does not go out of style, and it is the only jacket in this range you can wear off the bike without it reading as motorcycle equipment. The honest trade-off is conspicuity — a black torso is the hardest shape for a driver to pick out against wet tarmac, so if daytime visibility is a priority, look at the VoltTrack R or SolarRush R instead.

Matte versus gloss black

Matte hides scuffs and scratches that a polished finish turns into bright white marks. It also shows dust and water spotting more readily, so it looks worse dirty and better scratched — the opposite trade to gloss. For a jacket that gets used rather than displayed, matte is the more forgiving choice.

Fit and sizing

Eight sizes, EU 46 / US 36 through EU 60 / US 50, in a fitted race cut shaped for a forward riding position. Measure your chest over a single base layer. Black leather shows fit problems less than a panelled colourway does, which makes it tempting to accept a size that is slightly off — do not, because the reinforced areas still need to sit over the right part of your arm.

Care

Wipe clean using a soft damp cloth. Air dry away from direct heat. Use a leather-care product suitable for a matte finish — many conditioners add sheen, which will leave patches on a matte hide.
