Men's 2-Piece Motorcycle Racing Suits

A two-piece racing suit is a jacket and trousers joined at the waist by a connecting zip. Unzip it and you have a leather jacket you can wear on its own; zip it together and you have a full suit. For most riders who split their time between road and occasional track days, that flexibility is worth more than the marginal integrity advantage of a one-piece.

The practical case for two pieces

You can get into it in under a minute, you can strip the trousers at a cafe stop, and the jacket works as everyday leather when you are not riding hard. A one-piece suit does none of that — it is a single garment you climb into and stay in. If your suit will spend more days on the road than on a circuit, buy the two-piece.

The connecting zip is the thing to get right

This is where two-piece suits differ meaningfully from each other. A short connecting zip across the back holds the two halves together for comfort but can allow them to part under load. A full-circumference zip runs all the way around the waist and behaves much more like a one-piece in a slide. Many track-day organisers specifically require the full-circumference type before they will let a two-piece on track, so if circuit use is on your list, confirm your venue's rule and confirm which zip your chosen suit has before ordering.

Sizing a two-piece

You are fitting two garments, so there are more measurements that can go wrong. Take chest, waist, hip, inseam and arm length. Pay particular attention to the waist: if the jacket and trousers do not meet comfortably at the waist when you are seated in a riding position, the connecting zip will strain every time you move. Measure seated as well as standing if you can. Made-to-order suits cannot be returned for sizing errors, so ask for help before ordering if any measurement is borderline.
