How to choose motorcycle pants

Compare outer material, impact-zone reinforcement, knee and hip armour pockets, ventilation, stretch panels, waist adjustment and jacket-to-trouser connection. Review each product page for exact materials, sizing, protective components and certification information before ordering.

Street, track or touring?

Leather trousers cut for the street fit a rider sitting upright and walk acceptably off the bike. Race cuts are pre-curved at the knee with a high back and a tight thigh, correct in a tuck and restrictive standing up. Touring riders usually go textile for the weather, and keep leather for dry days and fast ones.

Armour and the connecting zip

Check for CE armour pockets at the knees and hips, and whether the protectors are included or sold separately. If the trousers will pair with a jacket, the connecting zip has to run most of the way around the waist — a short zip lets the two halves separate in a slide, which exposes your lower back exactly when it is being dragged.

Fit, break-in and care

Leather does not give like cloth, so measure waist, hip, thigh and inseam and buy to the chart rather than to your jeans size. Expect stiffness that eases as the leather moulds to you. Clean and condition it occasionally so it does not dry out and crack, and dry a soaking slowly, away from direct heat.
